An error happened. Now what?

Compare an error that merely rejects input with one that helps the person recover.

Error identification and recovery

Interface demonstration: this exercise demonstrates product behaviour; it is not intended to simulate a disability or another person's lived experience.

Why is this not a disability simulation?

These exercises compare how interfaces behave. They do not reproduce the experience of living with a disability, and no single demonstration can represent everyone’s experience. You can examine the interface using your usual input method or assistive technology without pretending to be someone else.

Try it here

Enter anything other than a six-character code, then submit each example. Use invented text only.

Dead-end error

Recoverable error

Use the six-character code from your confirmation email.

What changed?

Both forms apply the same six-character validation rule and accept valid input. For invalid input, the recoverable version explains the expected format, identifies the problem more specifically and returns attention to the field that needs correction.

Go deeper — optional

Try both forms with only the keyboard, then with a screen reader. Compare what you can discover before and after submission.

This Lab is one controlled example. Its result is evidence about this example, not proof that every related state or user experience has been covered.
